Neostep 1mg/100mg Tablet is taken with or without food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. Neostep 1mg/100mg Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Loperamide and Furazolidone which treat infectious diarrhoea. Loperamide is an opioid agonist which works by decreasing contraction of the intestines making the stools more solid and less frequent. Furazolidone is an antibiotic. It kills bacteria and other diarrhoea-causing microorganisms by damaging their DNA.

  • You have been prescribed Neostep 1mg/100mg Tablet for the treatment of diarrhea caused by bacteria or parasites.
  • Diarrhea can cause water loss and electrolyte imbalance. Drink plenty of fluids especially ORS (oral rehydration solution) to help keep you hydrated.
  • Do not use Neostep 1mg/100mg Tablet if you have blood in your stool or if you are severely constipated.
  • Stick to simple meals and avoid spicy rich food in order to avoid feeling sick (nausea).
  • It is best to avoid drinking alcohol while taking and till 4 days after taking this medication. This is because drinking alcohol with Neostep 1mg/100mg Tablet is likely to make you feel very sick (nauseated) and cause other unpleasant effects, such as hot flushes, headaches.
  • Avoid taking fermented foods like cheese, or fermented meat, fish, etc. in excess while taking Neostep 1mg/100mg Tablet as it may cause some side effects.
  • Consult your doctor if your diarrhea last for more than 48 hours.
