Furazolidone + Loperamide is taken with or without food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. How Furazolidone + Loperamide works

It kills bacteria and other diarrhoea-causing microorganisms by damaging their DNA.

  • You have been prescribed Furazolidone + Loperamide for the treatment of diarrhea caused by bacteria or parasites.
  • Diarrhea can cause water loss and electrolyte imbalance. Drink plenty of fluids especially ORS (oral rehydration solution) to help keep you hydrated.
  • Do not use Furazolidone + Loperamide if you have blood in your stool or if you are severely constipated.
  • Stick to simple meals and avoid spicy rich food in order to avoid feeling sick (nausea).
  • It is best to avoid drinking alcohol while taking and till 4 days after taking this medication. This is because drinking alcohol with Furazolidone + Loperamide is likely to make you feel very sick (nauseated) and cause other unpleasant effects, such as hot flushes, headaches.
  • Avoid taking fermented foods like cheese, or fermented meat, fish, etc. in excess while taking Furazolidone + Loperamide as it may cause some side effects.
  • Consult your doctor if your diarrhea last for more than 48 hours.
