Meftal-MR Tablet is a medicine used in the treatment of abdominal cramps. It relaxes the muscles in the stomach or intestine and stops sudden muscle contractions, thereby relieving cramps, pain, bloating, and discomfort.

Meftal-MR Tablet should be taken with food. This will prevent you from getting an upset stomach. Take it in the dose and duration as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or use it for longer duration than recommended by the doctor.

The most common side effects of this medicine include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion, loss of appetite, sleepiness, weakness, and dryness in mouth. How Meftal-MR Tablet works

Meftal-MR Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Mefenamic acid and Tizanidine which relieve abdominal pain. Mefenamic acid is a non-steroidal anti- inflammatory drug (NSAID) which works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause pain and inflammation (redness and swelling). Tizanidine is a muscle relaxant which works by acting on the centers in the brain and spinal cord to relieve the muscle stiffness or spasm.

  • Dry mouth may occur as a side effect. Frequent mouth rinses, good oral hygiene, increased water intake and sugarless candy may help.
  • Do not take indigestion remedies (antacids) within two hours of taking Meftal-MR Tablet.
