Wyceft 250mg Tablet contains an antibiotic medicine named cefuroxime. It is prescribed for bacterial infections of the lungs, ear, throat, sinuses and urinary tract. Cefuroxime is a bactericidal medicine that belongs to a class of antibiotics called cephalosporins. This medicine kills bacteria and treats infections such as pneumonia, otitis media, strep throat, gonorrhoea, and Lyme disease.

Wyceft 250mg Tablet should be taken as advised by your doctor. You may take this tablet with your meals at the same time every day. All antibiotic therapies should be completed and not stopped midway, even if you feel well. Try not to miss a dose, and avoid taking twice the amount to compensate for a missed dose.

Side effects of Wyceft 250mg Tablet are usually minor and should not be of any concern. As it is an antibiotic, gastrointestinal side effects such as stomach pain, diarrhoea and vomiting are common. Your doctor may also prescribe an acidity-regulating medicine (PPI such as pantoprazole) to counter these side effects.

This medicine might be contraindicated (unsafe) during pregnancy and for people with kidney diseases, colitis and allergies to cephalosporin antibiotics like cefuroxime. Wyceft 250mg Tablet contains cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by stopping the susceptible bacteria from making their cell walls, effectively killing them. It kills the bacteria instead of suppressing their growth, which is why it is called a bactericidal antibiotic.

Wyceft 250mg Tablet inhibits the cell wall synthesis of the susceptible strains of infection-causing bacteria. For the bacteria to make its cell wall (which is essential for their survival), it needs to synthesise a substance called peptidoglycan. Cefuroxime binds itself with particular proteins called “penicillin-binding proteins”. When this happens, the bacteria are unable to make peptidoglycans. This results in the inhibition of cell wall synthesis and, ultimately, the death of bacteria.

Wyceft 250mg Tablet is highly effective against gram-negative aerobes and gram-positive streptococci. It treats infections caused by Klebsiella, E. coli, staphylococci, group B streptococci, Salmonella, H. influenzae (both type A and B), and Enterobacter.
