Introduction To Trigaine Forte Lotion

Trigaine Forte Lotion is a prescription medicine. This combination medicine is used to treat hair loss. It increases the blood supply to the scalp that promotes hair growth. It also provides nutrition to the scalp.

Trigaine Forte Lotion should only be applied directly to the scalp area in the amount, and in the way, specified on the label or by your doctor. Clean and dry your scalp before using it. It may take several months before you notice any hair growth and the first growth may be soft, colorless and barely visible. Using more than recommended will not speed up hair growth and may cause dangerous side effects. This medication must be used continuously to maintain hair growth. If your condition does not improve or worsens after using it for 4 to 6 months, tell your doctor.

Some common side effects of this medicine include itching, redness, and burning sensation at the application site. If these side effects do not improve with time or worsen, inform your doctor. If you get it in your eyes, mouth or broken skin, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water. Talk to your doctor if you are bothered by side effects, or they do not go away.

How Trigaine Forte Lotion works

Trigaine Forte Lotion is a combination of three medicines: Hydrocortisone, Minoxidil and Tretinoin which treat hair loss. Hydrocortisone is a steroid which blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the scalp red, swollen and itchy. Minoxidil is a vasodilator, meaning it widens the blood vessels and provides better blood flow to the hair follicles. This prevents hair loss and stimulates re-growth. Tretinoin is a form of vitamin A. It works by promoting the growth of hair follicles and additionally enhances the absorption of Minoxidil from the scalp.

Quick tips

  • It should only be applied directly to the scalp. If the medicine accidentally comes in contact with your eyes, nose or mouth, flush the area thoroughly with cool tap water.
  • Wash your hands properly before and after application.
  • Do not shampoo your hair or use a hairdryer for 4 hours after applying Trigaine Forte Lotion as it can reduce the effectiveness of the medicine.
  • During the first 2 weeks of application, your hair fall may increase. This is normal and is a sign that medicine is working.
  • Take care that Trigaine Forte Lotion does not trickle down onto your face as it may cause undesirable facial hair growth.
  • Do not cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects.
