Mupirich Ointment

Mupirich Ointment is a topical antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections that affect the skin. This ointment contains mupirocin, a medicine that kills bacteria and prevents their growth. It is usually prescribed for bacterial skin infections such as impetigo and MRSA colonisation. Mupirocin is not used to treat skin infections caused by fungi or viruses.

Mupirich Ointment is meant for external use only. Clean and dry the affected area before application. Check the labels and instructions before applying. Unless advised by a doctor, do not apply this medicine on cuts, wounds, or burnt skin. Avoid contact with eyes or mouth. Mupirich Ointment does not produce a lot of side effects when applied as prescribed. Prolonged use of this medicine can lead to side effects due to the drug being slowly absorbed by the skin into your bloodstream. Long-term use can also result in the overgrowth of fungus on the skin.

Mupirich Ointment is also used for MRSA colonisation, a condition in which a bacteria named methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus infects the skin but doesn’t make the person sick. This medicine is sometimes used by doctors as first-line treatment for wounds and burns to prevent bacterial growth and infection in the affected area.

This binding stops the enzyme from working to make bacterial protein and RNA - two things bacteria need to survive and grow.
