Liquid Parafin

Liquid Parafin is a topical application (containing liquid paraffin) used to treat dry skin in conditions such as atopic dermatitis (eczema), psoriasis and ichthyosis vulgaris. It moisturizes the skin by creating a seal over the skin’s surface, preventing water loss via evaporation.

Liquid Parafin is meant for external use only. You may apply it once or twice daily for optimum results. If you have severely dry skin, your doctor might recommend you apply it more often. Moisturizing creams generally work best when used just after a shower.

There are no notable side effects of Liquid Parafin to be concerned about. It is a topical application with just one main ingredient designed to retain moisture in the skin. Since it doesn’t contain steroids, it is safe to use it.

This medicine is contraindicated for no particular groups of people. Liquid Parafin works well on all skin types and dramatically benefits the dry type. It is not, however, recommended to be used on oily skin since it will make the skin greasy.

Liquid Parafin contains white soft paraffin as the main ingredient and benzoic acid 0.2% as an antimicrobial preservative in a cream base. It is used for treating dry to very dry and cracking skin. It is not a cure and requires to be used on a basis if you have extremely dehydrated skin.

It is recommended to be used in winter as the skin typically becomes drier due to reduced humidity in the air. This medication ensures the retention of the natural oils and water the skin has and prevents it from evaporating into the air.

Your doctor will prescribe you Liquid Parafin for a specific duration after assessing the extent of dryness or the severity of the skin condition (eczema, psoriasis or ichthyosis vulgaris).
