How J P Flox OZ 200 mg/500 mg Tablet works
J P Flox OZ 200 mg/500 mg Tablet is a combination of two antimicrobial drugs: an antibiotic and an antiprotozoal. When administered together, both kill the harmful bacteria and protozoan parasites by blocking certain enzymes and producing toxic compounds that kill the infective agent.
J P Flox OZ 200 mg/500 mg Tablet includes two active ingredients: ofloxacin and ornidazole. Let’s look at what they do individually to understand how they work when combined.
Ofloxacin is an antibiotic that comes under the class of antibiotic drugs called fluoroquinolones. They work as broad-spectrum drugs (which means they are functional against a wide range of bacteria) and are used to kill both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
The way ofloxacin works is by preventing the bacterial cells from multiplying. It blocks or inhibits certain enzymes within the bacterial cell, such as DNA gyrase, type II topoisomerase, and topoisomerase IV enzymes. These enzymes are necessary for the separation of bacterial DNA, which is crucial for cell division. When these enzymes are blocked, the DNA breaks, and the bacteria die.
Ornidazole is a nitroimidazole antimicrobial. It works against both parasites (protozoans) and anaerobic bacteria. The mechanism of action involves the activation of this drug by the enzymes the microbes produce; upon activation, certain toxic compounds are formed, which are harmful to the cells of these microbes. This results in the damage of proteins, membranes and the DNA found inside the cell.
Ornidazole is used to treat trichomoniasis (a sexually transmitted disease caused by Trichomonas vaginalis), giardiasis (a diarrheal disease caused by Giardia duodenalis), and amebiasis (an intestinal infection caused by Entamoeba histolytica) - all protozoal infections.
