Introduction To Eldoxime 100mg Tablet DT
Eldoxime 100mg Tablet DT is an antibiotic medication containing cefixime. It is prescribed for bacterial infections of the lungs, ear, throat, sinuses and urinary tract. Cefixime is a bactericidal medicine that belongs to a class of antibiotics called cephalosporins. This medicine treats infections such as pneumonia, otitis media, strep throat, gonorrhoea, and Lyme disease.
Eldoxime 100mg Tablet DT should be taken as advised by your doctor. You may take this tablet with your meals at the same time every day. All antibiotic therapies should be completed and not stopped midway, even if you feel well. Try not to miss a dose, and avoid taking twice the amount to compensate for a missed dose.
Side effects of Eldoxime 100mg Tablet DT are usually minor and should not be of any concern. As it is an antibiotic, gastrointestinal side effects such as stomach pain, diarrhoea and vomiting are common. Your doctor may also prescribe an acidity-regulating medicine (PPI such as pantoprazole) to counter these side effects.
This medicine might be contraindicated (unsafe) for pregnant people and people with allergies to cephalosporin antibiotics. Always let your doctor know of any health conditions you might have. Generally, this medicine is considered safe for most people.
Uses of Eldoxime 100mg Tablet DT
Eldoxime 100mg Tablet DT contains cefixime, an antibiotic belonging to the group of medicines called cephalosporins. It is used to treat a large number of bacterial infections.
Eldoxime 100mg Tablet DT is prescribed for infections of the ear (Otitis media), throat (pharyngitis, tonsillitis), sinuses (sinusitis), lungs and airways (pneumonia, bronchitis) and urinary tract (cystitis urethritis). It is also used for people with sexually transmitted bacterial infections like gonorrhoea.
Eldoxime 100mg Tablet DT is highly effective against gram-negative aerobic bacteria. It treats infections caused by Streptococcus pyogenes, Branhamella catarrhalis, Enterobacteriaceae, Haemophilus influenzae and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Viral infections such as colds and flu do not respond to antibiotics like cefixime. Still, they might be prescribed to prevent a subsequent bacterial infection due to the viral infection worsening.
How Eldoxime 100mg Tablet DT works
Eldoxime 100mg Tablet DT is a bactericidal medicine that belongs to a class of antibiotics called cephalosporins. It kills the susceptible bacteria instead of suppressing their growth.
Eldoxime 100mg Tablet DT works by killing bacteria by inhibiting their cell wall synthesis. For the bacteria to make its cell wall (which is essential for their survival), it needs to synthesise a substance called peptidoglycan. Cefixime, contained within this tablet, binds itself with particular proteins called “penicillin-binding proteins”. When this happens, the bacteria are unable to make peptidoglycans. This results in the inhibition of cell wall synthesis and, ultimately, their death.
Eldoxime 100mg Tablet DT is highly effective against gram-negative aerobic bacteria. But it is inactive against anaerobic bacteria. Cefixime, contained within this tablet, is commonly used to treat infections caused by Streptococcus pyogenes, Branhamella catarrhalis, Enterobacteriaceae, Haemophilus influenzae and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Dosage
Always take Eldoxime 100mg Tablet DT as prescribed by your doctor. Never consume more than the prescribed dose. For the best results, swallow it whole with plenty of water; do not chew or crush it. You can take this medicine with your meals (to minimise stomach upset) or as your doctor recommends.
The daily recommended dose of cefixime, the main component of Eldoxime 100mg Tablet DT, is 400 mg per day, so your doctor might prescribe two tablets per day, each containing 200 mg of cefixime. Take any missed medication as soon as you recall if you have missed a dose. If it is about time for the next dose, take that dose only. Leave at least 6–8 hours between doses.
Taking more than the prescribed dose may lead to overdosing. You may contact your doctor or visit the nearest hospital if you experience signs like severe vomiting or acute sharp pain in the abdomen.
Your doctor will prescribe you Eldoxime 100mg Tablet DT for a specific number of days after assessing the extent of the bacterial infection. To ensure proper recovery and prevent antibiotic resistance, you should complete the medication’s course and not miss a dose.
Safety Advice
Eldoxime 100mg Tablet DT is contraindicated (unsafe) for people with severe kidney/liver diseases and allergies to the class of antibiotics called cephalosporins. Always let your doctor know of any health conditions you might have. Generally, this medicine is considered safe for most people.
