Magaldrate

Introduction To Magaldrate

Magaldrate is used in the treatment of acidity, intestinal ulcers and stomach ulcers. Such ulcers are caused due to excess production of acid in the stomach. This medicine is an antacid that works by neutralizing stomach acid.

Magaldrate may be taken with or without food preferably at bedtime in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. Let your doctor know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect, or be affected by this medicine. Remember you should avoid this medicine, if you have signs of appendicitis or inflamed bowel (such as lower abdominal pain, cramping, bloating, nausea, vomiting).

It is important to consult a doctor before taking this medicine if you are suffering from severe constipation, severe stomach, or kidney disease. It is an effective medicine with very little or no side effects however it may cause constipation, so it is better to take plenty of fluids while taking this medicine. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking this medicine.
